Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills are those activities that involve using the small muscles of the hand and are necessary in completing many daily tasks. There are several components to the development of fine motor skills:

  • Development of the arches of the hands
  • Development of the web space between thumb and index finger (pincer grasp)
  • Separation of the two sides of the hand which aids in-hand manipulation
  • Development of hand and finger strength
  • Refined fine motor skills are the last to develop
