ACE’s Health Improvement Team wins National Award

On 4th November 2013 ACE’s Health Improvement Team won the Team of the Year 2013 Award at the national Nutrition & Health Live Awards ceremony held in London – many congratulations to everyone involved!  The judges were particularly impressed with the team’s implementation of research into practice in the delivery of this highly successful evidence programme.

ACE are particularly delighted by this award as the team was nominated by Dr Laura McGowan (Director of the National Charity – Weight Concern based at the University College London) for Shape-Up, which is our very successful weight management programme.

Shape-Up is an evidence-based programme developed by a group of expert clinicians and psychologists in Weight Concern dealing with obesity.  The Shape-Up programme allows participants to set their own goals depending on their starting point and helps them to build the skills and confidence needed to manage their weight long-term.  The core team comprises of a lead facilitator and a co-oordinator/ administrator based at Colchester Cornerstone, together with a team of 31 trained and motivated facilitators.

Dr Laura McGowan, Executive Director of Weight Concern who nominated the team at ACE for their work, said:

“We are absolutely delighted that ACE has won this award for the delivery of our Shape-Up programme.  The team at ACE do an amazing job of running Shape-Up, reaching hundreds of adults per year and helping them to improve their health and feel more in control of their eating and activity habits. They are definitely our ‘Best-Practice’ model and the judges said it was a clear winner from the outset.”
