Harry Walden's match report : May 2014

Essex Soccability League Premiership May 2014

Clacton H4L A Squad:

Kyle Thompson (GK)

Greg Lark (c)

Tom Nicks

Ronnie Holloway

Harry Walden

Jordan Ovenden

Robbie Ratcliffe

Luke Thomas

It was the final league tournament of the season and Clacton knew they had nothing to play for, as there hadn't been as many good results as the previous season. Kyle was making his debut for Clacton after moving from the Witham H4L team, as previous keepers Neil Johnson and Peter Britton had now left the squad. The overall turnout of the results was a lot better than the April tournament though.

Match Reports

Colchester H4L A                   1-1                   Luke

For the first 5 minutes of the game Colchester were the more threatening side. The wind was playing a part in this as Clacton were facing it, so it was aiding Colchester whenever they had possession. Luke opened the scoring for Clacton with a shot going through the keeper's legs. Colchester equalised with a Dave Ashmore header.

Basildon A                              3-0

Basildon weren't attending this tournament, so Clacton were automatically credited with a 3-0 victory over them.

Disability 4 Sport                    1-0                   Own goal (Luke)

After being put under pressure from the wind in their first game, Clacton switched from facing the wind to having their backs to it. The advantage helped keep the ball towards the other end so Clacton were able to win several corners. The only goal of the game came from a corner kick taken by Luke. Luke crossed the ball into the box and the ball deflected in off a defender.

Tendring Mental Health          2-2                   Greg x2

Clacton had their backs to the wind again, but with Tendring being the strongest team in the league it didn't have much effect on keeping the ball away from Clacton's goal, and Tendring opened the scoring the wind still turned out to be very useful for Clacton though. Clacton's free kicks are taken by Greg, as he has a very powerful shot on him. With Clacton behind he took a goal kick and the ball went all the way down to the other end, the wind aiding it. Robbie was down there as backup which distracted the keeper and Clacton equalised. Soon after Clacton went 2-1 up with Greg scoring from another goal kick. Unfortunately Harry conceded a late penalty which caused the final score to be 2-2.
