The Physiotherapy Service for North East Essex provides rehabilitation and clinical assessments and treatments for patients, in hospital and community settings. It focuses on a multiple range of interventions.   

The outpatient physiotherapy services include: rheumatology, pre and post-operative rehabilitation, pain therapy, mobility assessments, treatment of soft tissue injuries, treatment of joint injuries, treatment of spinal problems, phase 3 cardiac rehabilitation, and respiratory treatments.   

The service also includes a self-referral option.  


Patients who self-refer will be offered electronic or paper based patient assessment questionnaires. Support includes:


  • Phone advice
  • Use of smart phone apps
  • Pain management advice and education
  • Internet based exercise programmes
  • Volunteer/health coaching 


This approach will enable patients to take the first steps to improving their condition ahead of their first appointment.
